Montessori for Six to Twelve Year Olds

At Wa Ora Montessori School we have three classes for children from six to nine years and one classroom for children from nine to 12 years.
Montessori education does not end with the preschool experience. For a child over six, beginning to develop powers of reason, abstraction, and imagination, the universe and all it contains is presented through the Montessori primary curriculum. The primary child begins to think and wonder about ideas and concepts beyond her own personal experience. In Montessori primary your child’s questions are encouraged and provide the basis for exploration of the world. The child really connects with knowledge when she has initiated the search for answers. At Wa Ora Montessori we aim to give your child a vision of interrelated knowledge and a love of learning.
The self-learning structure of our Montessori classrooms frees our teachers to give your child the individual attention when interest is high and curiosity aroused. Our teachers plan for each child individually, providing guidance and offering challenges according to the child’s strengths and needs. In our Montessori primary classes an attitude to learning is developed where your child will be confident to try new challenges and explore new ideas in depth.
Like Montessori preschool, Montessori primary is based on multi-age groupings which provides your child with many opportunities for social development. Friendships developed in a multi-age setting have depth and through the wide range of ages and abilities builds in each child a tolerance and appreciation for people's differences. Relationships within the class and their complexities are supported by sensitive and respectful adults who facilitate and help the children to take responsibility for their community.
Our school is unique in offering Montessori primary on the same school site as our three to six classes. Wa Ora Montessori is also the only state-integrated Montessori primary school.
Our classrooms for six to nine year olds are called Puriri, Kauri and Rata (Year 2-5). Totara is our class for children from nine to twelve years (Year 5-7).
